Mastering the Bake: How to Season Your Alphin Pizza Pans
A great pizza starts from the bottom up. Seasoning your pizza pan creates a natural non-stick surface, protects against rust, and improves performance with every single bake.
Here is the ultimate guide to prepping and maintaining your British-made pizza pans for the perfect crust.
6 Steps to Perfect Seasoning
1. Wash
Wash your new pan in hot, soapy water. This removes any protective coating or manufacturing dust. Rinse thoroughly.
2. Dry Thoroughly
Moisture is the enemy of seasoning. Dry the pan completely with a clean towel. For best results, place it on a low heat stove or in a warm oven to ensure no moisture remains.
3. Apply Oil
Apply a very thin layer of high-smoke-point oil over the entire surface—inside, outside, and the rim. Wipe off all excess oil until it looks dry.
- Best Oils to Use: Vegetable, Grapeseed, Flaxseed, or Canola Oil. Avoid Olive Oil.
4. Heat
Place the pan upside down in the oven. Bake at 230°C (450°F) for exactly 1 hour.
5. Cool
Turn off the oven. Leave the pan inside to cool completely. This slow cooling process locks in the seasoning.
6. Repeat
Repeat steps 3 to 5 two more times. A triple-layer build creates a strong, durable seasoning base.
Pro Seasoning Tips
- Less is More: Wipe the oil on, then wipe it off. The thinner the layer, the better the finish
- High Heat is Key: Proper heat creates a hard, protective barrier that won’t stick or flake.
- Repeat Regularly: Re-season every few months to maintain that deep, durable finish.
- Natural Non-Stick: Over time, your pan will naturally become non-stick and easier to use.
| ⚠️ | After Seasoning: Your pan is ready to use! For the best baking results, always preheat your pan before cooking. |
Ongoing Care & Maintenance
- Hand Wash Only: Wash with hot water and a soft brush or sponge. Avoid soap if possible to protect the coating.
- Dry Immediately: Never let your pan air dry. Dry it thoroughly right after washing to prevent rust.
- Light Oil After Use: Apply a very thin layer of oil after each use to maintain the seasoned layer.
- No Dishwashers: Dishwashers and harsh detergents will completely strip your hard-earned seasoning.
- The More You Use It, The Better It Gets: Consistent use builds a stronger, slicker seasoning over time.
